Homayouni pattern is based on the principles of ‘Medallion and Spandrels’ design, in which the borders between different parts are depicted by narrow gaps. The central medallion consists of several concentric circular layers each containing eight single paisleys, or Shah Abbasi flowers, beautifully located next to each other. The concentric circles are symbols of the hidden hierarchy of existence; in many national believes and religions the number eight is a sign of maturity, perfection, and auspiciousness. In mythological tales, eight angels carry the heaven surrounding the universe. The eight Cedar-shaped paisleys on the last layer can be a symbolic representation of these angels.

In Persian culture, the Cedar tree itself is the symbol of assiduity and exaltation of Iranians. The Spandrels of this pattern are in the form of curved triangles, which empowers the circular look of the Medallion.

The circle is the symbol of femininity and also the sky. It becomes a sign of the spiritual world in a higher level of interpretation. Since a circle is beautifully fitted inside a square in this pattern, it looks elegant both on the square and round-shaped tables.

طراحـی طـرح همایونـی بـر اسـاس مبانی لچـک و ترنج اسـت کـه در آن مـرز بیـن اجـزاء بـدون دورگیـری و تنهـا بـا فضـای خالی مشـخص شـده اسـت. ترنـج میانـی متشـکل از چنـد الیـه دایره‌گـون هم‌مرکـز اسـت کـه در هـر الیـه هشـت بتـه و یـا گل شاه‌عباسـی بـا ظرافـت خـاص و بـه زیبایـی در کنـار یکدیگـر قـرار گرفته‌اند .دایره‌هـای هم‌ مرکـز نمایانگـر طبقـات و سلسـله مراتـب وجـود اسـت و در بـاور بسـیاری از ملیت‌هـا و مذاهـب عدد هشـت نمـاد کمـال و فرخندگـی اسـت. در کتـب مذهبـی واسـطوره‌ای آمـده اسـت کـه هشـت فرشـته، عـرش را کـه محـاط بـر جهـان اسـت، نگه‌داشـته‌اند. در الیـه‌ی آخـر ترنـج طــرح همایونـــی نیـز یـک بتـه سروی ‌شـکل و دو بتـه قرینـه در دو طـرف آن بـر مسـند تـاج یـک گل شاه‌عباسـی در الیه‌هـای پایین‌تـر نشسـته‌اند کـه می‌تواننـد نمـادی از ایـن هشـت فرشـته آسـمانی باشـند. درخـت سـرو خود بـه تنهایی ریشـه در فرهنگ ایرانی داشـته و نمـادی از اسـتقامت و سـرافرازی ایرانیـان اسـت. در لچـک طـرح همایونـی دو بتـه‌ی تـو در تـو بـه صورت قرینـه در گوشـه یک مثلث از گل‌هـای ریز قـرار گرفته‌اند. یک ضلـع مثلـث به تناسـب زمینـه انحنا یافته اسـت کـه نمایش بصـری فـرم دایـره در زمینـه‌ی طـرح را تقویـت می‌کنـد. دایـره از یـک منظـر نشـانی از احسـاس و مبییـن زنانگـی و عنصـر مؤنـث اسـت و در معنایـی مسـتقیم‌تر نشـان‌دهنده آسـمان کیهانـی اسـت. در مرتبه باالتـری از تعبیر، آسـمان نیز بـه خـودی خـود بـه نمـادی بـدل می‌شـود، نمـادی از جهان معنـوی، نادیدنـی و متعالی.
